Passing of Nev 'Mambo' Hines - Newsletter No 6 ……..June 2011.
NEV HINES (20.11.1946-27.05.2011) We are very sad to announce that on the 27th of May 2011 Nev passed away from a suspected heart attack at his home in Tanjung Setia, Sumatra. Nev leaves behind his wife Ani, two sons Greg and Clint and 4 grand children, as well as many many friends who's lives he touched during his incredible journey.
Both Ani, Stu and the rest of the Freeline team are totally committed to Ombak Indah Losmen and ensuring Nev's ground breaking work continues. This is a new chapter for the Ombak Indah Surf camp.

On 26th April 2011 Andrew ‘ Andy’ Watson, American trouble maker extraordinaire was deported from Indonesia And given a 12 month blacklisting. Several surf camps, village leaders and tourism promoters worked with the Indonesian imigration office to make this happen.
Known locally as ‘the idiot’ due to his stupidity in constantly trying to make trouble with locals, expats and tourists/ guests to this area., he had very few friends, except those in authorfity whom he paid to keep him out of trouble. ‘the idiot’ was also a good conman and over the years has duped a few unsuspecting punters into ‘investing’ with him. These ‘investors’ usually finished up with nothing more that a good line of bullshit.
If you come across him, or his wife/partner Ari, (equally suspect) beware and think carefully before you part with any cash.
Most westerners are glad to see him go, he gave us all a bad/suss name, particularly Americans, but all bules in general. Surfers don’t come this far to get involved in petty politics and bullshit. It’s all about the waves and the area, so it’s goodbye ‘idiot’, don’t bother coming back. Sth Sumatra is a better place now it’s an ‘idiot’ free zone.
